After months of experimenting, Iβve finally perfected the best vegan exotic smoothie. The balance of sweet, creamy, and light tart flavoursβ¦ the fresh taste from fruitsβ¦ the extra nutrition from veggiesβ¦ the bright appealing colourβ¦ and the fun, simple recipeβ¦ This smoothie is bound to become a staple in your morning routine π π

Iβve said so much about the smoothie up there, but thereβs still more!
Weβre such a smoothie familyβand the blender is one of the most used appliances in our home. Ever since Iβve created this recipe, we have it at least twice a week, and sometimes even more. Youβd probably be able to guess how delighted my family (especially my husband) was when they first tried the tropical green smoothie.
I know some people are turned off by a weird smoothie colour. But this one is different. Itβs such a pretty, inviting shade of green that BEGS to be sipped every other day.
Not all smoothies can be enjoyed on an empty stomach. Some are high in sugar, others are made with dairy milk (which causes acidity early in the morning). My plant-based tropical smoothie is a one-in-all drink that isβ¦
Delicious
Sugar-free
Lactose-free
Low-calorie
Healthy
So you can have it on an empty stomach without worrying about a glucose crash π₯³
Iβve tried this recipe so many times, with so many different ingredients. So I now have a substitute for almost every ingredient of this recipeβfind them below in the βVariation Ideasβ section.

Greens. For the leafy greens, I recommend using spinach if youβre new to smoothies. It has a milder flavour than kaleβone that is easy to mask with fruits. Plus, itβs super easy to blend. If youβre more experienced with green smoothies, you can consider kale (it also comes with some extra nutrients). Alternatively, you can try the drink with chard. Or, better yet, a mix of all three greens? The combo works for me!
Fresh mango chunks. Mango is my favourite fruit for a green smoothie! But I also like to switch things up with blueberries, peaches, strawberriesβ¦ and, sometimes, a mix of βem π
Fresh pineapple (or canned). I use pineapple for some extra sweetness (the natural way). Itβs also great for digestion.
Fresh ginger (peeled). If you want your exotic smoothie to be an anti-inflammatory and immunity-boosting drink, ginger is the secret. It also adds warmth to the freshness of the fruits. Perfect contrast!
Sunflower seeds. I like to add seeds to almost all my smoothie recipesβeven this berry oat smoothieβand this tropical drink is no exception. Itβs because this tiny ingredient has sooo many nutrients. Youβll also notice that they make the smoothie so much creamier.
Lime juice (freshly squeezed). A little citrus juice never hurt anyone. It adds so much flavour to a green smoothie, in my opinion.
Oat milk. My usual liquid choice for an exotic smoothie. Oat milk makes for a creamy texture, as well as a good source of fibre. Any plant-based milk works, though.
Cooled herbal tea. Yup, your favourite herbal tea can make its way into this smoothie! Just be sure to allow it to cool fully before blending. It will give the smoothie a boost of antioxidantsβand flavour, of course.
Pea protein powder. The final and most important ingredient. Since weβre using oat milk, pea protein powder can make up for the higher protein content of soya milk. I use neutral-flavoured protein powder to make sure it doesnβt alter the flavours.
High-speed Blender (a whisk will do as well)
Sharp knife
Lemon squeezer

Prepare the ingredients: Wash the greens, peel the fruits.
Blitz: Add all the ingredients to the blender, and blend on high speed. You want to do this until you get your desired consistency.
Aaand, enjoy your smoothie! π

Any sweet fruit (Iβll give a bonus to seasonal ones) instead of mango and pineapple
Turmeric instead of fresh ginger
Pumpkin seeds instead of sunflower seeds
Lemon juice instead of lime juice
Green tea instead of cooled herbal tea
Oats (for a more filling breakfast)
Avocado
Coconut water
Almond butter
Cinnamon
Frozen berries
Matcha powder
Cacao nibs

I normally use fresh leafy greens, but frozen work tooβno need to thaw.
Be sure to use fresh ginger (not powdered). If you donβt have a high-speed blender, you can grate the ginger.
If those leafy chunks are your pet peeveβ¦ Blend the greens first with the liquid ingredients, then add the rest of the smoothie contents. This is especially helpful if you donβt have a high-speed blender.
Pre-soak the sunflower seeds for about 2 hours.; itβs going to make the blending so much easier.
Donβt keep the blender running continuously. You want to blitz it in pulses to make sure all the ingredients spread evenly.
If your exotic smoothie isnβt sweet enoughβtry adding natural sweetness with options like pitted dates, dried figs, maple syrup or agave syrup.

This vegan exotic smoothie is the perfect pool-side drink, but it also makes a great pair withβ¦
These are just a few optionsβ¦ the ones I really liked. You can go on to mix things up and enjoy what YOU preferβbut please let us know what you tried and how you liked it π
Though everyoneβs nutritional needs are different, this smoothie is a one-for-all. It has all those vitamins, protein, fibreβ¦ so Iβd say yepβit really is THAT healthy π
Almond, coconut, or cashew milk work great for different flavors and textures.
Absolutely! Itβs low-calorie, high-fiber, and packed with metabolism-boosting ingredients.
Yes! You can replace it with hemp seeds or more sunflower seeds for extra protein.
